Home Current Plan Current Park Previous plans City Plans Design 5, Design 4 Design 3, Design 2, Design 1
We have been through 4 iterations and have incorporated changes from many people in the community. Landscape architects from the city reviewed the plans and shifted some items around but have approved this design. They have reservations about the roller slide - rocks and sticks get stuck easily - we may want to change it for something else. After outlining the current footprint, Carol Shein from the city gave us these comments:
1. If the tot lot fencing that's closest to the street is meant to be a straight line, I think it should be perpendicular to the park perimeter fence. As well, it should tie into the perimeter fence. Maybe the gates are fitted down at that end. [This should be of particular interest to neighbors who are concerned about the visual impact; this change will further hide the structures behind existing street side trees.]
2. Siting the tot lot fence right up against the back of the bleachers is awkward and, as well, cuts off circulation. There needs to be some clearance between the back of the bleachers and the tot lot fence (i.e.,~ 4' or 5'). This will allow kids headed for the swings or older structure to pass by the tot lot instead of through it and will also allow park users to walk behind the bleachers. The playground circulation needs to work even during baseball season.
3. Without the latest drawing in hand, I have no idea if the tot lot layout can be reconfigured to fit these conditions but I would like you to take another look. Sometimes the equipment can be tweaked and turned to make it fit. If not, perhaps we should think about angling the fence that sits closest to the street as in the shape of half of a hexagon.
John Taylor came to many of the same conclusions after painting the outline and observed there is plenty of room to clock the toddler area in the fashion Carol suggests. Another design will be drawn up after a meeting 1st week of November.
The Blue line around the toddler area is a 4' fence enclosure REQUIRED by the city.
Fibar (treated woodchips) will be used as flooring under all the equipment. The areas will be enclosed with "tuff timbers" - recycled plastic timbers - to create a bed. This is the same as at Richardson field and is the favored method for upkeep by the city.
The backstop is currently about 60 feet from home plate. It will be removed and a shell will be placed at homeplate.
